Royal Navy ships help with the invasions of Axis territories

As campaigns in Africa drew to a close, the Allies turned their attention to the next major objective, an invasion of Europe. From their position in North Africa, and with the aid of the Royal Naval fleet in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, the next logical targets for the Allies were German defences on the Italian island of Sicily.
